We stayed the 2 nights at an Oreo Cow Dairy farm.\u00a0 They have pigs, goats, cows, horses, chickens, swans, ducks, cats and dogs.\u00a0 It is a beautiful family farm 40 minutes outside of Memphis.\u00a0 If you wanted to, you could help with the chores feeding the livestock and collecting eggs.\u00a0 That was something Laureen was interested in doing but we spent long days in the city.<\/p>\n

Had a wonderful 3-hour tour of Memphis City.\u00a0 A highlight was the Peabody Hotel and the marching ducks.<\/div>\n

It was pretty cool doing a tour of the iconic studio which gave so many of the great musicians their start.\u00a0 Jerry Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, BB King and of course – Elvis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

They still use the studio today.<\/div>\n

This X is where the singers would stand.\u00a0 Yep, Johnny Cash and Elvis stood where Laureen is standing!<\/div>\n

This is an original microphone used at the peak of the studio operating.\u00a0 Yep, Laureen is having fun.<\/div>\n

We had lunch at the sandwich shop Elvis used to go to.\u00a0 We lucked out and got his table.<\/div>\n

Of course, we had to eat the fried peanut butter and banana sandwich.\u00a0 Mark had a side of grits, which he found disgusting.<\/div>\n

\u00a0The peanut butter was so thick, it was hard to get down.<\/div>\n

We toured the Civil Rights Museum and saw where Martin Luther King was assassinated.\u00a0 The history was mind blowing.<\/div>\n

The walking bridge to Mud Island.\u00a0 Might be familiar to you.\u00a0 Tom Cruise ran across this in the movie The Firm.\u00a0 It is 1\/2 mile long.<\/div>\n

Beale Street is like Bourbon Street\/Frenchman Street in New Orleans.\u00a0 We were there Sunday night, and the place was just starting to get active.<\/div>\n

Graceland Museum was larger than we thought but Graceland Mansion was smaller than we expected.\u00a0 Laureen likes Elvis but not a “fan girl” but now she has more respect for The King.<\/div>\n

It was wonderful to learn,\u00a0 the Meditation Garden is open from 7 am to 8:30 am free of charge.\u00a0 You can walk the grounds and enjoy the tranquility.<\/div>\n

It was interesting to see all of Elvis’s accomplishments and who in the music world took aspects of him and integrated them into their style and wardrobes.<\/div>\n

John Stamos’ character on Full House was named after Elvis’s twin brother, Jesse, who didn’t survive long after he was born.<\/div>\n

Surprisingly, Bass Pro Shop was a hit.<\/div>\n

It’s in a Pyramid shaped building and houses a hotel, Walburgers, bowling alley, shooting gallery, full bar and a restaurant.<\/div>\n

There is a 12 story fully glassed elevator that takes you up to an outdoor viewing area of the city.<\/div>\n
